AFPD v. 0.7.0


AFPD v. 0.7.0 is now out on Windows, with Mac and Linux builds expected to be released soon!

With this update, AFPD is out of alpha and into beta!

Major Additions

  • You can now crouch, and crouch cancel by extension!
  • You can now block attacks on the ground!
    • Blocking works a bit like a traditional 2d fighter: You can perform a standing block and a crouch block, and both will only successfully block certain attacks.
    • A crouching block will block all grounded attacks and projectiles in front of you.
    • A standing block will block all aerial attacks and projectiles in front of you.
    • Attacks with a transcendant property (meaning they cannot clank with other attacks) cannot be blocked. For example, Carpenter Chicken's crate explosion.
    • Blocking opens up new movement options:
      • You can instantly attack, jump, or ground dash while out of blockstun.
      • Since blocking is prioritized over dashing, you can hold block while performing a pivot to help avoid accidentally dash-dancing.
  • Cat Tosser, Carpenter Chicken, TC-C016, and Sputnik have new up & down specials!
    • Cat Tosser ABU/GBU
      • Cat Tosser's new up special is Cat Warp!
      • Performing this ability after throwing a cat will teleport you to the cat you threw!
    • Cat Tosser ABD/GBD
      • Cat Tosser's new down special is Telecatnesis!
      • Performing this ability will pull any cats in range towards you!
      • You also instantly pick up items while in performing Telecatnesis!
    • Carpenter Chicken ABN/GBN
      • Carpenter Chicken's new neutral special is Flutter! (Hammer Toss has been moved to GBU/ABU)
      • Holding ABN/GBN will cancel your vertical momentum! You can even perform aerial attacks while fluttering!
    • Carpenter Chicken ABD/GBD
      • Carpenter Chicken's new down special is Dynamite!
      • Using this ability will light up a throwable stick of dynamite that will explode after a set amount of time!
    • Sputnik ABU/GBU
      • Sputnik's new up special is Charge Jump!
      • Hold and release to jump real high!
    • Sputnik ABN/GBN
      • Sputnik's new neutral special special is Tongue Toss!
      • Tongue Toss is a command grab that throws your opponent behind you!
      • Sputnik's old ABN/GBN has been moved to ABD/GBD.
    • TC-C016
      • TC's new ABU/GBU is their old GAU!
      • TC's new ABN/GBN is their old GAN!
      • TC's new ABD/GBD is their old ABN/GBN!
      • TC's new GAN is a kill move!
      • TC's new GAU is a combo tool!
  • There's now an Abomination Gallery! Visit it in the extras menu for fighter stats, tips, and LOOORE!
  • CPU AI is improved! They're still not amazing but now they can wavedash, block, and not SD repeatedly!
  • Your settings and controls are now saved locally!
  • You can now toggle an in-game input display via the display options menu!
  • Your total KOs since booting the game will be shown on the CSS!

Visual/Audio Changes/Additions

  • Cat Tosser now has full voice acting.
  • UI and UX improvements and polish. (Snazzy new transition!)

Minor Additions/Tweaks

  • The Core and Space Highway now have fine collision! In a physics system that normally wouldn't support that! Using a jank cool hack! I'm cool! Stage collision is now shown when view terrain collision is enabled (if it is enabled through the options menu).
  • You can now salty runback while quiting a match; The input for salty runback has changed to NORMAL+SPECIAL.
  • Random character selection is now weighted, so you'll be less likely to play as the character you just played as.
  • Character selection now persists after a game ends.

Balance Changes
These aren't all the changes, I lost the document keeping track of them, whoops.

  • Carpenter Chicken
    • Horizontal air acceleration 4.5 -> 7
    • Horizontal air deceleration 0.75 -> 3
    • AAF initial hitbox damage 14 -> 11
    • AAF BKB 10 -> 14
    • AAF startup 4 -> 10
    • AAD startup 11 -> 14
    • Ground dash speed 420 -> 370
  • TC-C016
    • AAD hitbox width decreased.
    • Blaster bullet speed adjusted [330-660] -> [660,400]
    • Blaster shot is no longer transcendental.
    • Lazer whip is no longer transcendental
    • Throw startup 7 -> 9
    • Throw endlag 8 -> 10
  • Sputnik
    • Sputnik's double jump height now decays after each jump.
    • GAU bkb 10 -> 16
    • Throw endlag 8 -> 10
  • Prince Slime
    • Landing lag 5 -> 4
    • Prince Slime's AAD bounce is now more accurate.
  • ROBOCAT
    • Air Dash Intangibility 20 -> 30

Bug Fixes

  • The game no longer takes forever to load.
  • You can no longer hold air dash to buffer a frame perfect air dash.
  • Fixed issue regarding wall bounce detection accuracy.
  • Fixed visual issue with TC-C016's GAD.
  • Stage backgrounds now updates when the game is paused.
  • A lot more stuff that I forgot!
